The role involves ensuring the safety of all project personnel, contractors, and stakeholders while maintaining compliance with local and international HSE standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and practices specific to roads and highway construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with EU HSE regulations, directives, and best practices relevant to infrastructure projects.
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Lead safety inductions, training, and awareness programs for all site personnel, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Monitor and report on HSE performance metrics, incidents, near misses, and investigations.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans, including drills and documentation.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, clients, and subcontractors to ensure all HSE requirements are met.
- Promote a proactive HSE culture across all project phases from planning through to completion.
- Provide expert advice on environmental management practices and sustainability initiatives related to highway and road works.
- Prepare detailed HSE reports and documentation to support project compliance and certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of HSE experience in roads, highways, or civil infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience working with EU HSE regulations and standards (e.g., EU Directive 92/57/EEC on Temporary or Mobile Construction Sites, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Strong knowledge of local and international safety codes, risk assessment techniques, and environmental legislation.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent HSE certification preferred.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing project demands.
