Position Summary
The Bowling Equipment Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all bowling center mechanical and electronic systems. The ideal candidate possesses expert-level hands-on experience with Brunswick GSX pinspotter equipment and a thorough working knowledge of the Vector scoring system. This role is critical to ensuring maximum lane uptime, guest satisfaction, and the safe operation of all bowling equipment.
 
Key Responsibilities
Brunswick GSX Pinspotter — Mechanical & Electrical
•       Perform routine preventive maintenance on all Brunswick GSX pinspotters including distributor assemblies, ball lifts, sweep mechanisms, and pin elevators
•       Diagnose and repair mechanical failures including worn drive shafts, damaged belts and pulleys, broken pin cushions, and faulty solenoids
•       Troubleshoot electrical faults across GSX control boards, relay systems, motors, and wiring harnesses
•       Adjust and calibrate GSX cycle timing, turret positioning, and setter head alignment to manufacturer specifications
•       Replace worn or damaged components including pit curtains, ball return guides, accelerators, and gutter channels
•       Interpret GSX electrical schematics and mechanical drawings to carry out accurate fault diagnosis and repairs
•       Maintain detailed maintenance logs and service records for every lane unit in the center
 
Vector Scoring System
•       Administer and maintain the Vector scoring system including software configuration, network settings, and hardware interfacing
•       Troubleshoot Vector system errors, display malfunctions, lane communication failures, and data synchronization issues
 
General Facility & Equipment
•       Conduct daily pre-opening equipment inspections across all lanes and report faults prior to guest access
•       Maintain and service ball return systems, approach areas, foul detection systems, and lane lighting
•       Monitor and apply lane oil conditioning machines according to the center's maintenance schedule
•       Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety standards when performing all maintenance tasks
•       Maintain an organized parts inventory; order replacement components in a timely manner to minimize downtime
•       Respond promptly to in-session lane failures to minimize disruption to guests
•       Collaborate with management to plan major overhauls and capital equipment upgrades
 
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential
•       Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience servicing Brunswick GSX pinspotters in a commercial bowling environment
•       Demonstrated electrical competency including reading wiring diagrams, using multimeters, and fault-finding control circuits
•       Proven working knowledge of the Vector scoring system — configuration, troubleshooting, and network management
•       Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in drive systems, belts, bearings, and pneumatic or electromechanical assemblies
•       Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks under pressure, and manage multiple lane issues simultaneously
•       Comfortable working in confined spaces, at height (ball return pits and overhead mechanisms), and in noisy environments
•       Valid driver's licence (where applicable for multi-site or mobile technician roles)
 

Desirable
•       Formal trade qualification in Electrical, Electromechanical, or Mechanical Engineering
•       Brunswick-certified technician training or completion of a Brunswick service course
•       Experience with other Brunswick pinspotter models (e.g., A-2, GS-X Plus, or Mark IV)
•       Familiarity with additional scoring platforms such as Sync Bowling or Conqueror
•       Basic IT networking knowledge (TCP/IP, switches, cabling) relevant to scoring system infrastructure

Working Conditions
  • The Bowling Equipment Technician works primarily on-site within the bowling center. The role involves regular physical activity including lifting, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces around lane machinery. The work environment includes moderate to high noise levels from bowling operations and equipment. Weekend, evening, and public holiday availability is required to support peak trading periods. On-call availability for urgent equipment failures may be required.
